Summit Power celebrates business launch with two ZBC energy storage units from Atlas Copco
In just its first week of operations, the Midlands-based equipment rental and temporary power company opted to buy two electric 250kva/575kwh ZBC energy storage units.
Starting as they mean to go on, Summit Power – the sut.celebrated its first week of operations in January by bringing two of the latest energy storage units from Atlas Copco onto its all-new fleet.
The units – 250kva/575kwh ZBC energy storage devices from Atlas Copco – will form the basis of what the company expects to be a 70%/30% mix between diesel and electric portable power demand in 2024. Leveraging the benefits of high-density lithium-ion batteries, these units are relatively compact and light, yet capable of providing days of autonomous power with a single charge. They are suited for noise-sensitive environments, such as events and urban construction sites, telecom, rental applications and to efficiently cover low loads. These Energy Storage Systems are a perfect fit for applications with a high energy demand and variable load profiles, as they successfully cover both low loads and peaks. For example, they can efficiently manage peaks in energy demand for noise-sensitive events, and for electric vehicle (EV) recharging stations.
‘Committed to the energy transition’
The start-up Summit Power is targeting customers looking for temporary power solutions in the construction, agriculture, warehousing, manufacturing and facilities management sectors.
Commenting on the rationale behind choosing these energy storage units so early in the Ashby-de-la-Zouch based company’s development, Summit Power’s inaugural managing director Ross McConachie commented: “We are committed to the energy transition, and always intended to move into larger energy storage units, but decided not to wait and jump right in from the start. They will help demonstrate our technical know-how, and support our customers’ own energy transitions, as well as allowing these energy units to get closer to the action, thanks to their zero emissions and low vibration and noise credentials.
“We believe these two units to be a strategic investment: we’ll be able to provide our rental customers with a unique level of high-capacity energy storage, be that solely battery or through an engineered hybrid solution. We’re optimistic that these units will be the beginning of a fruitful business partnership between ourselves and Atlas Copco within the energy storage rental market in the UK.”
“We’re very pleased to be supporting Summit Power right at its inception – and believe adding these ZBC units to its fleet is a sound future-proofed business decision,” said Atlas Copco energy storage business line manager Paul Webster. “Our consolidated Energy Storage System range is at the heart of the power supply transformation. Developed with sustainability in mind, it helps users dramatically reduce their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while delivering optimal performance with reduced noise and service cycles.”
