In recent years, advancements have been made to automated technology, allowing manufacturing facilities to become more efficient and ergonomic while maximizing production output. Automated systems accomplish this by error-proofing your assembly, thus eliminating scrap and regulating the production process to ensure maximum productivity is achieved. The same is true with Atlas Copco’s screw feeder.

When a manufacturer in the automotive industry searched for assembly defect prevention techniques that would help them reduce scrap, they weren’t sure if screw feeding could be a financially justifiable solution or if their fasteners were candidates for screw feeding. Our experts visited their facility to see if screw feeding would work for them. Read on to discover how screw feeding was able to transform their assembly.

But first, let’s talk about screw feeding

Atlas Copco’s screw-feeding system drives the station's productivity, quality, and ergonomics by automatically dispensing screws to the tightening tool. This eliminates two steps in the process: obtaining the screw and positioning it for tightening. This helps to alleviate operator interruptions, enabling them to keep productive on the line.

Benefitting from our screw feeder

After meeting with our customer, we were able to prove the benefits of the screw feeder with an on-site demo. It was clear that they could benefit a lot simply by reducing the amount of scrap they were experiencing, which was an estimated 10,000 – 20,000 per month.

But that’s not all. Our customer also saw a boost in productivity thanks to reduced fastening times. The swivel arm on the power head, which enables instant screw loading, was a key factor here, cutting cycle time by an average of 20% per application. Additionally, by opting for our screw-feeding system, they enjoyed the convenience of sourcing the complete solution from Atlas Copco.
