Atlas Copco Rental India supports during several oil cavern leakage test projects with the necessary air supply

Antwerp, Belgium – May 19, 2015: Atlas Copco Rental India helps SK Engineering & Construction and three more companies with similar solution to test newly built oil caverns on potential leakages.

May 19, 2015

140 feet below earth in the southern part of India, several leading construction companies were contracted to build huge caverns for the storage of crude oil in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Atlas Copco Rental India was then contacted by each of those to come up with a solution to provide the needed equipment and knowledge to thoroughly test the newly built caverns on leakages before they can be filled up.

The crude oil will be stored for a potentially long time, only to be exerted in case of emergencies such as natural calamities or other major event. Leakages can surely not happen at any point in time after the crude oil is inside of the caverns. In order to ensure the caverns are 100% airtight, Atlas Copco Rental India provided a technical solution to fill up the caverns with air and measure if it could be kept there for a period of 4 to 5 days.

Keeping in mind the cost for the customers as much as the technical requirements, a combination of Z and PT electrical oil-free and GA oil-injected compressors together with all necessary air hoses and other accessories was suggested for the customers review and approval.

For one of these tests the weather brought an additional challenge: the rainy season was in full swing and a cyclone hit the site, making all communication and transport impossible for four days. Fortunately the Atlas Copco Rental engineers were well prepared, the equipment was up to the challenge and the project run safe and smooth at all times. Even more: thanks to the extra efforts of the engineers and the efficiency of the compressors, the testing was completed several days before the estimated date. What convinced the customers in the first place were the excellent references Atlas Copco Rental India was able to present. And this type of project can surely only confirm those!

During the project we took the opportunity to show other potential customers the site and these companies also decided to work with us and rented several ZT’s, GA’s, and PTS to be installed for similar projects.
