Atlas Copco Rental repeats successful ice blasting project at power plant

March 19, 2018

March 19, 2018 - Precision Iceblast Corporation needed high-pressure air for a new cleaning project in Vasilikos, Cyprus. As in previous jobs, they turned to Atlas Copco Rental for a mobile air compressor and matching dryer that could complete this job quickly.

Oil free air setup for dry ice cleaning of HRSG
The power plant’s Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) need thorough cleaning every two years, otherwise the efficiency of the turbines will drop due to accumulation of grease, slag, dirt and other contaminations in the tubes. For the Cypriot power plant, it was time for their thorough clean up. Therefore, they contacted Precision Iceblast Corporation (PIC), the world leader in HRSG cleaning. The heat exchangers are cleaned with dry ice, which is a non-abrasive and dry process that makes use of CO2 as an alternative to water. This technology is, today, one of the most effective cleaning methods as it is faster than conventional methods, safe around bearings and it can clean electrical components harmlessly.

To carry out the process, PIC uses oil-free compressed air at high pressure (24barg) delivered by a diesel driven air compressor (To carry out the process, PIC uses oil-free compressed air at high pressure (24barg) delivered by a diesel driven air compressor (To carry out the process, PIC uses oil-free compressed air at high pressure (24barg) delivered by a diesel driven air compressor (To carry out the process, PIC uses oil-free compressed air at high pressure (24barg) delivered by a diesel driven air compressor (our PNS 1250 mobile) and matching dryer. The whole setup is rented from Atlas Copco Rental. Thanks to this setup, PIC was able to clean the heat exchangers regardless of the size within the expected period during the power plant’s low season. After this cleaning, the HRSG’s efficiency was optimal again, and it could recuperate its maximum amount of heat.
