Kick off for nitrogen generator at Sadara project in Jubail

Antwerp, Belgium - January 5, 2015: Atlas Copco rental to supply Nitrogen generators and related equipment for the inerting and preservation of tanks when unused.

January 5, 2015

Sadara Chemical Company is an alliance between corporate leaders in their respective industries – Saudi Aramco and The Dow Chemical Company and is constructing the world’s largest chemical complex ever built in a single phase. The complex will house 26 integrated world-scale manufacturing plants that will produce more than three million tons of products every year. It is stated that Sadara will be a Fortune 500 company within the first year of full operation. Within this complex, one of the contractors is in charge of the tank farm project, which consists of 62 tanks of different sizes and for different products. These tanks will be used for packing and inerting applications. When unused, the tanks are inerted with nitrogen and preserved at 7 bar until needed. For this, the customer needs 300 CFM at a purity of 98%.

In the first meeting with the customers, they were looking for a nitrogen purity of 99.9% for the inerting of the tanks, which our nitrogen membrane cannot deliver. However it was clear from the beginning for the Atlas Copco Rental sales engineers that this level of purity would not be needed for this application where the tanks would be used to store hydrocarbon products. After several technical and financial meetings, our sales engineers managed to convince the customer that a purity of 98% would be sufficient.

We will be delivering our nitrogen membrane BB2000 with two PNS’s, which will run for twelve hours each. One will be running the day shift and the second running the night shift with a high pressure dryer. Further we will supply a manifold, air hoses and an air tank as well as two operators. Two service engineers will be deployed for the duration of the project, which is planned to last for three month.

We hope this deal will be our window to do a lot more (nitrogen) business in the giant project Sadara is working on.

Waddah Ahmad , Atlas Copco Rental sales engineer responsible for this project
