Atlas Copco Rental Brazil to support the uninterrupted production of dairy products during annual boiler maintenance

29 de Agosto de 2017

Antwerp, Belgium, August 29, 2017: Most production processes demand severe controls, but when it comes to processes involving food those are of the highest importance. When dairy company Latícinios Bela Vista needed to perform the maintenance of their boiler they found in Atlas Copco Rental a partner able to provide a solution fully matching their strict standards.

Piracanjuba Steam boiler rental project

Latícinios Bela Vista owns the Piracanjuba brand and received several awards for their positive achievements in the agribusiness and sustainable growth fields. The company sticks to the highest standards to ensure the well-being of their consumers.

Through their plants, 3.6 million liters of milk are processed daily to produce milk, butter and cheese.

At reception the raw milk is subject to sample analysis to control its quality and detect any adulterations. Only fully approved milk is discharged through strainers into stainless steel reception tanks, where it is weighed.

Afterwards, milk is refrigerated and moved into storage tanks before entering the production process: it all starts with pasteurization where milk is heated to 75 °C during 14 seconds using a plate heat exchanger and then cooled to 5 °C in the cold water exchanger circuit.

When the Governador Valadares plant (in Minas Gerais) needed to perform annual maintenance on their wood fired boiler this meant an interruption of production.

An alternative would be to send the raw milk to other plants. However this incurs costs and heavy logistics, but also the risk of losses and potentially rotten milk.

Despite the concerns on hiring external services, renting a portable boiler appeared a better solution.

After several meetings to ensure the full understanding of the project needs, the Atlas Copco Rental team offered a total solution that convinced Edson Antonio Nogueira Baptista, Plant Manager, of our capacity to supply steam & allow for a smooth and uninterrupted production during the entire maintenance period.

Ease of installation, 100% compliance with safety and environmental requirements as well as our 24/7 assistance added strong value to our proposition.

For this project we delivered:

  • Steam boiler 6,2 MBTU, supplying 2.700 kg per hour at pressure of 10,34 bar
  • Steam manifold
  • 20 meter steam hose
Our equipment operated three days in June.

“The performance was approved, supplying the expected steam volumes to the plant, and thus avoiding having to transfer material to other units. We can only conclude that the experience was positive and we will certainly contact Atlas Copco Rental to repeat this partnership next year” concludes Edson Antonio Nogueira Baptista.
