The Story:
In Nandurbar District, the people used to migrate to cities to seek better opportunities. To help the tribals combat this, Atlas Copco Charitable Foundation and LHWRF came up with a solution that would help uplift the lives of over 650 families in 25 villages.
The Project aims to stop the seasonal migration and to increase the income levels by ensuring water for irrigation in the farms of targeted families and improve the livelihood of landless or families with very less land holding through the establishment of micro-enterprise.

Measures Undertaken:
The project involves two main phases:
A) Group Well Irrigation System:
This project is aimed towards the landowners who are unable to sustain agricultural activities in summer. We will help the farmers in creating a dug well as a common water source for all.
Under the project, the per capita investment will be less, and operation and maintenance will be done by the group, thus the individual cost will be significantly reduced.

We plan to establish 100 Group Well Irrigation Schemes in the area, which will provide for the irrigation requirements of 500 families.
B) Micro – Enterprises Development:
This project is aimed towards families that do not own land and thus don’t have enough income opportunities through agriculture and labour. We will help them establish micro-enterprises as per their capability and location-specific feasibility.
Under the project, there are 3 types of enterprises that we support: Poultry, Goat Farming & Off Farm Micro-Enterprises.
Visible Impact (till date):
- Out of the targeted 100 Group wells for irrigation we have completed the work of 50 wells till date impacting 50 families.
- Out of the targeted 50 each poultry & goat farming units to marginal tribal families with no or very less agricultural land we have handed over these units to the families who have started decent earnings from the same.
- Out of 20 off-farm micro-enterprises we have completed support to 10 such families till date.
