Meet Lukas Chylek
Our Senior Accountant from KL Hub, Shared Service Center
Hi, I’m Lukas Chylek, an accountant from Brno Finance Hub in the Czech Republic. I’ve been with Atlas Copco since 2018, starting out as a PtP Specialist. Let me share my amazing journey with you!
I’ve always wanted to gain experience in different environment and culture, and what better place than Kuala Lumpur, a fast-evolving modern metropolis? My time here has been incredibly enriching, both at work and personally. I’ve learned new ways to tackle tasks, which has really opened my eyes.
Rich in learning and growth opportunities
Atlas Copco provided fantastic support, helping with paperwork, visa, tax reporting, and providing convenient accommodation. They also organized various sports events and a teambuilding event in Melaka, helping me get to know my colleagues better. The company’s commitment to employee development is evident from the variety of trainings and LinkedIn Learning courses offered.
Gaining Real-World Insights into Atlas Copco Operations
During my time in Malaysia, I had the invaluable opportunity to visit a customer site and observe our service engineers in action as they maintained Atlas Copco compressors. This firsthand experience provided me the understanding of how our compressors function, the intricate components that comprise them, and the precise procedures involved in their servicing. It was truly enlightening to witness the practical application of the data and metrics we analyze in our reporting systems.
Working with various business controllers, each with their own communication styles and needs, helped me adapt and improve my communication skills. Plus, I shared my accounting experience and methods from Brno Hub with my colleagues in Malaysia.
Beyond work, I got to travel around Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. Their beauty, tasty food, and meeting new people with their unique worldviews have been incredibly enriching.
My main task was to exchange knowledge in the accounting role with my Malaysian colleagues and work on automating some accounting processes.
I’ve improved my communication skills through presenting and describing automation projects, and I’ve enhanced my Excel skills, especially coding macros using VBA, and my PowerPoint skills. I also learned many new and useful SAP transactions, making me faster and more efficient.
One of my proudest achievements was creating an Excel file with macros that downloads data from SAP for monthly reconciliations, saving a lot of time. Seeing it work is so rewarding! Being close to the Customer Center, I got to see our products and learn more about our business firsthand.
The working culture here is different but interesting. There are times we have to work after office hours, but it’s balanced with flexible work options that care for our well-being. I also enjoyed joining many celebrations and events, like wearing the traditional Baju Melayu, which was a great experience!
Life is about choices you make. Going for the exchange program in Malaysia was one of the best choices of my life.
If you’re considering the exchange program, my advice is to have an open mind and don’t be afraid of change. I’ve been lucky to meet many interesting and kind people during my project. Playing floorball (indoor hockey) and winning a tournament with my team was an unforgettable experience. Malaysia has so many wonderful places and tasty food that I’m always discovering something new. Terima kasih to my colleagues for making my time here special!
