The Smart Factory arrives in Wolverhampton
Atlas Copco, is excited to announce the opening of its new Smart Factory Innovation Centre in Wolverhampton. This state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the country will be a showcase for all the technologies that power our Smart Integrated Assembly ecosystem. Our partners visiting the facility will experience first hand how the tightening, joining, quality assurance, vision and software solutions demonstrated enable efficient, flexible and sustainable manufacturing across all industries. Book your visit and discover how to transform your production processes and achieve your production goals.
Digital innovations are evolving and converging at an incredible pace! At the centre of this evolution is the Smart Factory and the technology to manufacture with flexibitlity and agility at scale!
Welcome to the Smart Factory Innovation Centre
Why Visit?
This purpose built space has been designed to showcase our Smart Integrated Assembly ecosystem, either as individual components or as a fully integrated Smart Factory environment. So, where ever you are on your transformation journey the solutions to enable your next step can be demonstrated, discussed and planned with our product experts.
Different industries and even organisations within industries are at different stages of transformation, having a facility that can be set up for each individual situation allows you to see where your next step is and ultimately what can be achieved should you implement a full Factory Integrated solution.
Visit the Innovation centre, and speak with our product and industry experts to see what you can achieve, and how to make your production goals a reality.
Joining technologies are rapidly evolving!
How we build and assemble products in every industry is constantly evolving with a seemingly constant search to find more efficient processes and cost reductions. This is one of the driving forces behind the Smart Factory, starting at Joint level with the correct tool for the job working accurately across applications and even build cells. Basic OK/NOK flags are no longer enough to meet quality targets and maintain traceability.
Process control and increasing usage of automation is pushing the need for more human and machine collaboration to make manufacturing agile and flexible enough to cope with customer configurable iterations and increasingly complex products.
It is not just about tooling either, for example, electrification of all transportation types is pushing boundaries for lightweighting whilst maintaining strength and quality. To meet these requirements across automotive, aerospace, rail and off highway we see more and more use of other joining technologies. Adhesives, self perce riveting and flow drill fastening are now widely used in assembly, and they still require the same levels of process control, quality assurance and traceability applied to the joint tightening processes. Vision systems have become so accurate that they can be used to scan the application in order to calculate the exact amounts of material to dispense and to then check for the smallest imperfections that could impact quality.
All of these technologies, along with software to control, monitor and report make up the Smart Integrated Assembly ecosystem.
Data-driven services
Data is everywhere, and everything we do produces more, and this is the no different for manufacturing. Data without understanding or action holds very little value though! To unlock the potential of all of this data requires insights and knowledge gained through experience to make it more than just numbers, lines and columns.
Data Driven Services from Atlas Copco has been devloped for maintenance, quality and process optimisation. By applying advanced analytics and machine learning to yoru production data, combined with our expertise of joining techniques, it is possible to identify and adProduction and assembly has always generated data and the Smart Factory is no different. It is not so much that there is more data, but rather we have got better and being able to capture and store it. Data without understanding or action holds very little value though, and to unlock the potential requires insights and knowledge gained through experience to make it more than just numbers, lines and columns.

When used across the Smart Integrated Assembly ecosystem, data from every stage of production can create actionable tasks or schedules that will constantly maintain and improve production efficiency and keep costs down.dress emerging risks before they can impact production.
