Student Mentoring Programme
Atlas Copco's mentoring initiative for female students in the UK
We're excited to announce that applications are now open for our student mentoring programme. After a successful pilot last year, we're proud to offer students this invaluable experience again for the 23/24 academic year. The programme is aimed at females studying in the UK who are interested in understanding more about what it is like to work in a global industrial group.
Taking those first steps into the working world after university can be a daunting prospect. It can be a nervous experience thinking about how your CV will look against others in the same position and if have you collected enough knowledge or experience to make you stand out against the crowd. Have you ever looked at a job advert trying to imagine yourself doing that role, not knowing if it excites you or terrifies you? What is often missing in those situations is a person with good insight into working life who can provide professional guidance.
With our mentorship programme, we want you as a student to be inspired through open and honest discussions about challenges and opportunities. The programme offers a minimum of six one-to-one virtual mentor meetings in one academic year. In addition, we organise networking events for all participants where we invite employees in senior positions in the Atlas Copco Group who can share their career journeys and lessons. The events give you the opportunity to develop your network and gain clarity on what opportunities there are after your degree. We can also prepare you for the day when it is time to apply for a job by offering personality tests in accordance with those we perform when recruiting.
All our mentors have experience of being leaders in a global company where the demands are high and where the ability to present and defend constructive ideas is highly valued. This is what one of our previous mentees had to say about her mentor:
My mentor taught me how to believe in myself and be confident about my skills and potential. She always encouraged me to apply for jobs. At times my motivation was low, but she always listened to me, gave me some tips, and reminded me of my worth. I had lots of interviews and rejections, but I kept in contact with my mentor and she was always there for me, keeping me motivated. Finally, after 3 interviews, I got a job! I could never have imagined I would have a job before starting this mentorship programme.
If you are interested in finding an inspiring and experienced mentor and are curious about what it is like to work for a large, successful global company, we encourage you to submit your application! We are primarily looking for female university students*.
*The Atlas Copco Group has a sustainability target to reach 30% employment of women by 2030. In order to achieve this goal, we need to attract more women to the Atlas Copco brand and inspire women to consider a future career with us.
