‘One of the reasons I came back to join the Atlas Copco Group after my placement year was because of the life-changing experience I had and my determination to ensure that people that look like me get the opportunity to thrive at a company like ours. I also experienced a company willing and passionate to see and create change and I wanted to be a part of that change. For my colleagues, my community and for our customers.’

Here at Atlas Copco we believe that bright ideas come from all of us and the more unique perspectives we embrace, the more innovative we are. In the Atlas Copco Group, we strive for diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our operations and in the UK we are committed to focusing on the future generation entering the engineering sector. Diversity and Inclusion is embedded in our values; how we work together, how we innovate and how we create value for our customers and societies. We want to attract, retain and develop a more diverse workforce through the talent we see and one of the steps to achieve this is to engage with organisations who are addressing and working to be a solution to inclusion issues in industry. With an inclusive culture we want our colleagues to feel seen and heard with respect whilst having equal opportunities to grow and thrive.

‘This is the start of something new and I’m proud to see that we are heading in the right direction.’

In the UK our businesses have increasingly been working to focus on and highlight a wide range of diversity and in my new role I have been excited to have the opportunity to do so. My responsibility as part of the Diversity and Inclusion team is to help us move forward. This year I’ve had the opportunity to work on a number of projects whilst also proposing new initiatives to the organisation.

One of the first programmes which I will help deliver for 2022/23 is our support and partnership with 10,000 Black Interns. Founded in 2020, 10,000 Black Interns is a new initiative transforming the horizons and prospects of young black people in the UK by offering paid internships across a wide range of industries whilst also providing training and development. Whether at university, college or on a gap year, 10,000 Black Interns enables young Black people to get a foot in the door across a breadth of sectors from engineering, to human resources, to marketing. To be the first in mind and first in choice, we are proud to lead the way in our sector committed to transforming the prospects of young black people across the UK, offering placements across many functions including Engineering, Production, Human Resources, Marketing Communications and more! These paid six-week internships will be offered across Holdings, Compressor Technique, Vacuum Technique and Industrial Tools Business areas. This is the start of something new and I’m proud to see that we are heading in the right direction. To be working with such forward-thinking colleagues on our participation in this initiative has been fantastic and I look forward to driving forward more inclusive initiatives and activities throughout our diversity and inclusion journey.

Applications for the 10,000 Black Interns programme open on Monday 26th September.
