Planning for Your Air Compressor's Maintenance Budget
Purchasing a compressor is a huge investment, so it’s necessary to put quality time into planning for the various costs associated with operating your air compressor. One common item that many businesses forget to include in this plan? Annual maintenance costs. It’s very important to consider maintenance, as costs will increase exponentially if service is neglected or forgotten.
Below are 6 tips to take into consideration when planning for your compressor’s maintenance costs:
- Type of Compressor. Is your air compressor oil-injected or oil-free? It matters when determining your service intervals!
- Installation Conditions. Does your compressor live in a hot, humid, dusty, or dirty location? The more severe the environment, the greater frequency of maintenance.
- Operating Cycle. For cyclical or seasonal uses, adjust the maintenance cycle accordingly. But remember – service intervals should be no longer than one year.
- Degree of Utilization. Is your compressor used very, very frequently? Maintenance needs grow with increased usage. One caveat: if you have backup compressors, then you can lengthen your maintenance schedule.
- Cooling System. While this is evaluated separately from your compressor maintenance, keep in mind that the type of cooling system will affect the compressor service schedule.
- Auxiliary Compressor Equipment. Dryers, filters, and drains, oh my! These pieces also need to be serviced, and often more frequently than the compressor itself.
