About us

Defining our decentralized organization

Our organization is decentralized. We have chosen this model as we believe whoever is closest to the problem is often closest to a timely solution. So being decentralized allows us to remain agile, even as a global Group. Let us look at how the puzzle pieces of our organization fit together.

Atlas Copco Group organization structure illustration Atlas Copco Group is organized in focused business areas with global responsibilities for specific products and service offerings. The business areas operate through separate divisions, which are our highest operational entities. The divisions generally conduct business through product companies, distribution centers and customer centers.

A deep dive into our organization

The board of directors is responsible for the organization and management of the Group. They regularly assess the Group’s financial situation and financial, legal, social and environmental risks. That way, the board can ensure that the organization is designed for satisfactory control. The board of directors is also responsible for recruiting and appointing the President and CEO.

Board of Directors

The President and CEO is responsible for the daily management of the Group, following the board’s guidelines and instructions. He or she should also ensure that the whole organization works towards achieving our Group targets.

The President and CEO leads Group Management, which consists of our business area presidents and five senior vice presidents.

Our business areas are responsible for developing their respective operations by implementing and following up on strategies and objectives. All in the pursuit of sustainable, profitable growth. Business areas also set strategies and objectives for our divisions.

Each division is an operational unit with global responsibility for a specific product or service offering.

A division can include one or more product companies. These product companies are responsible for product development, manufacturing and product marketing. As a result, a single division can handle multiple brands.

Our extensive brand portfolio allows us to present multiple offers to match the specific needs of different customer segments.

Within divisions, you will also find customer centers. These are local units responsible for customer contacts, sales and service. Customer centers can be dedicated to one division or shared between several.

At divisional level, we also have a network of distributors and dealers.

Our holdings have no product responsibility – their responsibilities are based on their geographical region. Their purpose is to support the divisional structure of the Group and to represent Group Management.

Our holdings are responsible for making sure that legal and organizational processes are followed. They also align branding and culture across their region.

Group functions provide shared resources for the whole Group. With experts in areas like finance, IT and HR, they make sure that the rest of the organization can focus on their core activities.

Our shared service centers provide internal services at a higher quality and a lower cost. This allows the divisions to focus on their core business.
