Meet Nils Dressler, PhD student of Electrical Engineering
How do you optimize and find better ways to control tightening tools? As an industrial PhD student, this is what Nils Dressler from Germany is investigating.
What is your area of research?
I’m doing my PhD in Electrical Engineering at the Group of Vehicular Systems at Linköping University. My area of research is about finding a better way to control tightening tools.
How can that help customers and the society?
The tools are for tightening bolts and threaded fasteners. I’m trying to find better ways to control the tools when they’re doing the tightening. In the long run the tools will help our customers to run their production line more robustly, more efficiently, more sustainably and quicker. If we manage to implement what I’m working on, we’ll have a lot of happy customers.
What do you hope to do after your thesis is done?
I’m halfway through my six-year research project. Now I’m writing papers to try and publish my research. I hope to get my PhD and then stay at Atlas Copco because it’s a company that helps customers to be more productive and generate value, and that’s very attractive to me.
